Firewalls - Are they enough protection for current networks?
نویسنده
چکیده
Firewalls are widely deployed in most organizations connected to the Internet to implement their information security policy and to protect information from unauthorized access. Yet intruders still manage to attack systems and gain unauthorized access to information that is supposedly protected by these firewalls. This article examines some of the history and background of firewalls and what has led up to the current situation. Additionally this article will examine how any organization, even your home network, can be made a far safer place using readily available existing firewall technologies. a 2005 Elsevier Ltd. Consistency verification of stateful firewalls is not harder than the stateless case
Firewalls play an important role in the enforcement of access control policies in contemporary networks. However, firewalls are effective only if they are configured correctly such that their access control rules are consistent and the firewall indeed implements the intended access control policy. Unfortunately, due to the potentially large number of rules and their complex relationships with e...
متن کاملA Survey and Taxonomy of Lightweight Intrusion Detection Systems
Internet and computer networks are exposed to an ever increasing number of security threats that can damage computer systems and communication channels. Firewalls are used to defend systems but still they are not enough to provide full protection to the systems. Then, the concern with Intrusion Detection Systems (IDSs) has been growing for network security over the past years. Due to the increa...

متن کاملA New Unequal Error Protection Technique Based on the Mutual Information of the MPEG-4 Video Frames over Wireless Networks
The performance of video transmission over wireless channels is limited by the channel noise. Thus many error resilience tools have been incorporated into the MPEG-4 video compression method. In addition to these tools, the unequal error protection (UEP) technique has been proposed to protect the different parts in an MPEG-4 video packet with different channel coding rates based on the rate...
